For families and the professionals who care

Quem

An assistant on glasses and phone that helps people with Alzheimer's recognize the people they love, remember what matters and ask for help when they need it.

Introducing the Quem app1

Daily life of caregivers

Small situations that weigh on every day

Faces slipping away

Not recognizing a son, a brother or the caregiver causes fear and embarrassment on both sides.

Forgotten medicines

Skipped or repeated doses, and the doubt: “did she already take it?”.

Phone scams

Calls from strangers pretending to be relatives, banks or hospitals.

Falls with nobody around

Minutes make a difference, and the person cannot always ask for help.

Scattered information

Doctor, nurses and family write things down in different places; nobody has the full picture.

Overloaded caregivers

Remembering everything, for everyone, all the time.

Quem2

The idea

A discreet assistant that whispers in your ear at the right moment.

Glasses with a camera

HeyCyan W630 glasses take the photo and play the app's voice, like headphones.

Or just the phone

Without the glasses, the phone camera and speaker do the same job.

Voice command

Just say “Who?”, “Call Mary” or “Help”.

Quem3

Recognizing people

“Who is it?” and the name reaches your ear

1

Ask

Press the glasses button, tap “Who is it?” or say “Who”.

2

Photograph

The glasses (or the phone) take a photo of the person in front.

3

Compare

The phone compares the face with the people the family registered.

4

Speak

The answer plays in the ear, with the name and the relationship.

MaryWho is it?
Quem, in the earRobinho, your brother.
Quem4

Introducing someone

Visitors introduce themselves, and the app learns

Her brother, arrivingHi Mary, this is your brother Robinho.
QuemNice to meet you! I'll remember that this is your brother Robinho.
On the next visitWho is it?
QuemRobinho, your brother.
  • The app answers to the person's name or nickname: “Hi Mary…”, “Grandma…”.
  • It photographs the closest face and stores it with the name and relationship: your brother, your granddaughter, your doctor.
  • Every new introduction improves recognition.
  • Ordinary conversation (“this is John from the bakery”) registers nobody: the app has to be addressed by name.
Quem5

Reminders

Medicines, appointments and visits, by voice and on screen

8:00 AMTime for your medicine: Losartan, 1 pill after breakfast. Did you take your medicine? Say yes or no.
MaryNot yet.
QuemOkay. I'll remind you again in 10 minutes.
  • “Yes” ends the reminder; “no” repeats it after the chosen time (with the voice command on).
  • The I took it and Snooze buttons on the notification work too.
  • Without an answer, the app asks again up to 3 times.
  • Appointments and visits warn ahead: “In 1 hour: Appointment, Dr. Paul”.

Calls

Only calls from people the family registered ring

Protection against scams

Unknown and hidden numbers are rejected. The phone shows a “call blocked” notice with the number and time, for the family to check.

Call by voice, on speakerphone

“Call Mary” and the app calls on the speaker, no need to hold the phone. Name and nickname both work.

Avoids repeated calls

“You already called Mary today at 2:20 PM. Do you want to call again?” The person answers yes or no.

Doctor, pharmacy and bank also need to be registered to get through. The filter requires Android 10 or later.

Quem7

Falls and requests for help

When something happens, the family finds out

1

Detects

The phone sensor notices a fall, the person says “Help” (voice command on) or taps Ask for help.

2

Asks

“Are you okay?” There are a few seconds to say “I'm fine” and cancel.

3

Alerts

Emergency contacts get an SMS with the name, the time and a location link.

4

Calls

The app calls the first emergency contact.

Fall detection is an estimate: a dropped phone also starts the countdown, and slow falls may go unnoticed. It does not replace a medical device.

Quem8

Medical record

One place for doctors, nurses and family to write things down

Health sheet

Allergies, conditions, current medications, blood type, health insurance, public health card and primary doctor. Shows who updated it and when.

Entries

Consultation, progress note, vital signs (BP, HR, temperature, glucose, SpO₂, weight), medication, test and incident.

  • Every entry records who wrote it: name, role and professional license number.
  • Nothing is deleted: a wrong entry is voided, struck through, with the reason and who voided it.
  • A PIN to open it: only people the family allows.
  • Share creates a summary to take to the appointment.
Quem9

What changes for each person

Everyone involved in care has a role

Family

Registers the people, the reminders and the emergency contacts. Gets fall and help alerts by SMS.

Doctors and nurses

Record consultations, progress and vital signs, signed with name and license. Check allergies and medications on the health sheet.

Caregivers

Write down incidents and medications during their shift, check reminders and introduce themselves so the app knows them.

And the person with Alzheimer's gains independence: asking, calling and getting help just by speaking.

Quem10

Privacy and consent

Face and health data are sensitive, and are treated that way

  • Photos, faces and the medical record stay on the phone and only leave it when someone shares them.
  • The voice command uses Android speech recognition; without the offline language pack, the audio is processed by Google.
  • The location is only sent by SMS to the chosen emergency contacts, and only during an alert.
  • The medical record can be protected by a PIN.
  • Laws such as the GDPR and Brazil's LGPD treat biometric and health data as sensitive data.
  • Register someone's face only with their consent.
  • Agree with the family and the legal guardian on who may read and write the medical record.
Quem11

Getting started

One afternoon of setup, with the family together

1

Install

Install the app, connect the glasses and accept the permissions.

2

People

Register everyone close: 3 to 5 sharp photos, phone and relationship.

3

Emergency

Mark the emergency contacts and turn on fall detection.

4

Reminders

Add the week's medicines, appointments and visits.

5

Medical record

Fill in the health sheet and set the PIN.

Finally, enter the person's name and nickname, turn on the voice command and practice together: “Who is it?”, “Call…”, “I'm fine”.

Quem12

In all honesty

What Quem does not do yet

Mixed-up faces

Dim light, a face turned aside or few training photos reduce accuracy. More photos help.

Voice can fail

In noisy places the command fails; on some phones the recognizer beeps every time it listens.

It takes a few seconds

With the glasses, each photo takes 2 to 6 seconds to reach the phone.

One device only

There is no sync between phones yet: whoever writes uses the person's phone.

Falls are estimated

There may be false alarms or falls without an alert. It does not replace supervision or a medical device.

Depends on the phone

Needs battery, permissions and, for the call filter, Android 10 or later.
