Quem privacy policy
Quem is an app that supports people with Alzheimer's and other memory difficulties, and the people who care for them. This policy explains what data the app uses, where it is kept and who it is shared with. It follows the principles of data protection laws such as the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Brazil's General Data Protection Law (LGPD, Law 13,709/2018).
Summary
- The data stays on the phone where the app is installed. Projeto Quem has no servers and does not receive this data.
- The app has no account sign-up, no ads and no advertising tracking, and it does not sell data.
- The location only leaves the phone by SMS, to the emergency contacts chosen by the user, during a fall or help alert.
Data kept on the phone
- Registered people: name, nickname, relationship to the user, phone number, photos of the face and a numeric representation of the face (biometric data) used to recognize them.
- Reminders: medicines, appointments, visits, times and confirmations.
- Medical record: health sheet (allergies, conditions, medications, health insurance) and entries written by professionals, caregivers and family members, with the name of whoever wrote them.
- Settings: the user's name and nickname, language, preferences and the address of the paired glasses.
This data is kept in the app's internal storage, which other apps cannot access, and is deleted when the user removes it in the app or uninstalls the app. The app makes no automatic cloud backup.
Permissions and what they are for
- Camera: photograph the person in front to recognize them, and take training photos. Used only while the app is open.
- Bluetooth: connect to the camera glasses and receive their photos.
- Microphone: listen for voice commands such as "Who is it?", "Call Mary" and "Help", also with the screen off, when the user turns the voice command on.
- Phone (make calls and phone state): call registered people, put calls on speakerphone and pause the voice command during calls.
- Call screening: when the user turns it on, Android tells the app the caller's number so that only calls from registered people ring. Numbers are neither stored nor sent.
- SMS: send the emergency alert to the emergency contacts.
- Location: include a map link with the device's location in the emergency alert. Read only at the moment of the alert.
- Motion sensors: detect possible falls, when the user turns the feature on. Sensor data is not stored.
- Notifications, alarms and background operation: show reminders on time and keep the glasses, the voice command and fall detection working with the screen off.
Sharing
- Emergency contacts: in a fall or help alert that was not cancelled, the app sends the user's name, the time and the location by SMS to the emergency contacts chosen by the user, and may call the first of them.
- Sharing by the user: the medical record and people packages only leave the phone when the user chooses to share or export them, through the destination app they choose.
- Speech recognition: the voice command uses Android's speech recognition service. When the offline language pack is not installed, the audio is processed by Google, under Google's privacy policy.
- Google libraries: face detection uses Google ML Kit, which runs on the phone and may send Google technical usage and performance information, without the images. The contribution QR code is generated on the phone.
Third-party data and consent
Faces and health data are sensitive personal data. Register a person's face only with their consent, and agree with the family and the legal guardian on who may read and write the medical record. The medical record can be protected by a PIN.
Your rights
Because the data stays on the user's phone, the user can view, correct and delete it directly in the app: by deleting a person or a reminder, or by voiding a medical record entry. Uninstalling the app deletes all data. For privacy questions, write to quemveigaribeiro@gmail.com.
Children
The app is intended for adults and is not directed at children.
Notice of use
Quem supports care. It does not replace supervision, professional follow-up or a medical device. Face recognition and fall detection can make mistakes.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this same address, with an updated effective date.
